Melamine Cyanurate (MCA) is a high efficiency halogen-free environmental flame retardant containing nitrogen. It is widely used in the plastics industry as a flame retardant.
After sublimation heat absorption and high temperature decomposition, MCA is decomposed to nitrogen, water, carbon dioxide and other gases which take away the reactant heat to achieve the purpose of flame retardant. Because of high sublimation decomposition temperature and good thermal stability, MCA can be used for most of resin processing.
MCA is used as a flame retardant in a wide range of materials, including polyamides, polyurethanes, polyesters, and epoxy resins. It is particularly useful in engineering plastics, which require high-temperature performance and low flammability. MCA can also be used in textiles, paints, and coatings to improve flame resistance. In the construction industry, MCA can be added to building materials like foam insulation to reduce the spread of fire.
In addition to its use as a flame retardant, MCA has other applications as well. It can be used as a curing agent for epoxies, and it has been shown to be effective in reducing the amount of smoke released during fires, making it a valuable component in fire-retardant materials.
